The 1st London Mid-Autumn Tai Chi, Painting, and Calligraphy Competition

On October 14th, London will welcome the first London Mid-Autumn Tai Chi, Painting, and Calligraphy Competition jointly organized by the London Chinese Association (LCA) and the Chinese Canadian National Council (CCNC-London). In order to promote Chinese traditional culture and enrich the entertainment life for people in London, we are inviting you to join us for the 1st London Mid-Autumn Festival Tai Chi, Painting, and Calligraphy Competition on Mid-Autumn Festival.

The competition is divided into two parts: Tai Chi competition and Calligraphy and Painting competition. Detailed information regarding the competition are as follows.

“KE GUI” Tai Chi Competition

“Enhance mental health, Improve flexibility and strength, Integrate body and mind.” The “KE GUI” Tai Chi competition, sponsored by Mr. Hou Kegui, real estate agent of STREETCITY Real Estate Company, will be held on October 14.

 

When: October 14th, 2018 (Sunday)

“KE GUI” Tai Chi Competition Rules

  1. Venue: 14 meters long and 8 meters wide (perimeter 5 cm white)
  2. Competition items:

Tai Chi Quan (Optional Routine) 3-4 minutes, Tai Chi Sword (optional routine) 2-3 minutes, Tai Chi Fan (optional routine) 2-3 minutes.

  1. Competition group: Tai Chi Quan

A man 60 years old or older

  1. men 40 to 59 years old
  2. man 20 to 39 years old
  3. man 19 years old or younger
  4. woman 60 years old or older
  5. woman 40 to 59 years old
  6. woman 20 to 39 years old
  7. woman 19 years old or younger

 

Tai Chi Sword

  1. man 60 years old or older
  2. men 40 to 59 years old
  3. man 20 to 39 years old
  4. man 19 years old or younger
  5. woman 60 years old or older
  6. woman 40 to 59 years old
  7. woman 20 to 39 years old
  8. woman 19 years old or younger

Tai Chi Fan

  1. man 60 years old or older
  2. men 40 to 59 years old
  3. man 20 to 39 years old
  4. man 19 years old or younger
  5. woman 60 years old or older
  6. woman 40 to 59 years old
  7. woman 20 to 39 years old
  8. woman 19 years old or younger

 

  1. Awards: Each group of champions, second place and third place win gold, silver and bronze medals. Other participants will be awarded the certificate.

              “KE GUI” Award: The highest total score

  1. Self-selected routine competition scoring method:
  •     Before the start of the routine, hold a fist – 1 point
  •     After the end of the routine, hold a fist -1 points
  •     Routine performance time (fist 3 minutes); (sword / fan 2 minutes) – 2 points
  •     Routine performance time does not exceed (fist – 4 minutes); (sword / fan – 3 minutes) – 1 point
  •     The routine is smooth – 10 points
  •     Routine performance prime number – 10 points
  •     Routine performance meets content regulations – 10 points
  •  The highest total score 35 points
  1. Tai Chi competition optional action routines:

Tai Chi Quan’s optional action routines include the following 10 main actions, which need to be completed in 3 to 4 minutes:

1 Grasp the Peacock’s Tail

2 Part the horse’s Mane

3 Brush knee

4 Cloud Hands wave

5 Fair lady works the shuttle

6 Sing whip

7 Retreat with arms curling

8 Deflect downward, parry and punch

9 Heel kick

10 Bo stance

 

The Tai Chi Sword’s optional action routine includes the following 10 main actions, which need to be completed in 2 to 3 minutes:

1 Thrust with sword

2 Parry with sword

3 Uppercut with sword

4 Point with sword

5 Hack with sword

6 Block with sword

7 Peel with sword

8 Envelopment with sword

9 A balance posture

10 bow stance

 

Tai Chi fan optional action routines include the following 10 main actions, completed in 2 to 3 minutes:

1 Thrust with fan

2 Parry with fan

3 Uppercut with fan

4 Point with fan

5 Hack with fan

6 Block with fan

7 Peel with fan

8 Envelopment with fan

9 Open with fan

10 bow stance

Registration deadline: September 26.

Participants are asked to to provide the length and form of the performance when register, as well as personal information such as name, gender, age, email and phone number.

Registration fee: $10/competition/person. Participants can pay for the registration fee via online e-transfer: contact@londonchineseassociation.org

Attention: Participants under the age of 20 need to be accompanied by parents or guardians on the competition day and must sign the waiver form.

“KE GUI” Painting and Calligraphy Competition

London has been a place full of talented people good at painting and calligraphy. Therefore, the first London Painting and Calligraphy Competition aims to provide a platform for Londoners to showcase their talents. All people are welcome.  

Entries Requested: The entries are not limited to the subject, type, and forms. You can submit previously completed works if you want. We will NOT provide the materials needed for the drawing of the work.

Paper specifications: The minimum paper size of the entry is A4 paper, and the maximum is 1.45M x 0.73M. Entries cannot be framed.

Competition rules:

  • Participants are divided into four groups based on age
  • Juveniles (under 20 years old)
  •      Youth (20-39 years old)
  •      Middle-aged (40-59 years old)
  •      Senior (60 years old and over).

The result of the competition will be determined by professional jury of well-known experts. All entries will be shown at 2019 Chinese New Year Gala hosted by London Chinese Association. The awards ceremony will be held during the Gala as well.

When: Participants are required to submit entries during 2019 New Year’s Day.

Submission time options: January 2, 3, 4, 2019 from 10 am to 2 pm
